I believe education is a transformative process that can broaden our perspectives and inspire us to improve the world. My goal is to instill this belief in my students and empower them to use their writing to address social and environmental issues. To achieve this, I take my classes on service-learning field trips to address problems such as climate change, pollution, and food injustice. These immersive activities provide students with experiences that help them imagine strategies to alleviate contemporary issues. At the end of the semester, undergraduates use their knowledge to educate our community on equitable practices through mediums like photography, social media, and digital magazines.
