Before coming to Wake Forest, I taught courses in English language and academic writing at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea for seven years. I then completed my PhD in the Joint Program in English and Education at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, where I began investigating the language-related difficulties that come with learning to write successfully in different disciplines. My teaching and scholarly interests are now in Writing Studies, Writing Across the Curriculum, and Applied Linguistics. At Wake Forest, I’ve endeavored to understand how language can be an explicit focus of instruction for students who have difficulty reading and writing academic genres, as well as for faculty who seek to expand their range of strategies for evaluating and responding to student writing. In my teaching, I place emphasis on helping students to think about language and writing in new ways.
