I joined the Writing Program in 2026 following the completion of my PhD in Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communication at the University of Minnesota. I am returning to campus as a “Double Deac,” having completed my MA in Communication in 2019 and serving as a peer tutor in the Writing Center. I am primarily a rhetorical scholar that thinks a lot about experts and how they communicate with the public about science, technology, and medicine, especially on social media. I’ve taught many classes like First Year Writing and Technical and Professional Writing.

In the classroom, I hope that my students gain a “rhetorical dexterity” or “rhetorical toolbox” that they can take to their other classes and beyond the university! By understanding audience, genre, mode, and rhetorical analysis, students can adapt their writing skills to other assignments and tasks at an internship or job. I work with my students to intentionally build communities where you feel excited to share ideas, practice giving feedback, and participate in scholarly conversations about exciting topics. Finally, I hope that students in my courses gain or improve their digital literacy skills as we participate in increasingly digital lives and spaces.
